| John Walker is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at South Dakota State University and Principal Keyboard for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Walker is active as a performer, composer, and adjudicator and is currently in a performance cycle of the Beethoven 32 Piano Sonatas. Mary Walker has taught at the collegiate level and is the newest member of the piano faculty at SDSU. She maintains a private studio in Brookings, SD teaching piano and organ. |
| The Merling Trio consists of piano, violin, and cello and is one of today's premiere ensembles. The trio is composed of musicians with Polish, Japanese and Dutch backgrounds. This distinguished group has given recitals throughout the Unites States, Canada and Europe, performing with such orchestras as The English Chamber Orchestra and The Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia. The trio is in residence at the School of Music at Western Michigan University and has performed in every state except South Dakota |
| The Musical Offering is one of the oldest chamber music groups in the Minneapolis, St. Paul area. It is a dynamic group of piano, flute, clarinet, and cello committed to performing the rich and diverse repertoire of three centuries of chamber music. A quartet of these accomplished players will present a concert of both rare and familiar pieces. They will intermix the instrumentation, providing the audience with a variety of duets and trios. |
| This year we are again honored to present the J. Laiten Weed Honors Orchestra. It is through the effort and imagination of Dr. Weed, the first professional string teacher in South Dakota, that this concept was initiated. This group consists of 22 South Dakota high school string players chosen through a very competitive audition process. The guest conductor of this orchestra is selected by the string teachers of South Dakota. |
| The Dakota String Quartet began in 1978 as part of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and performs in various venues throughout a five state region. Members are selected through highly competitive auditions and have been chosen on a basis of musical excellence and experience in orchestral, chamber, and solo performance. These musicians also serve as principals in the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. |
